Catalogue, storefront and checkout,
built as one Shopify system.

Shopify-specific implementation — theme customisation, catalogue structure and app integration built to work together, not assembled from unrelated pieces. Looking at commerce platforms generally, or considering WooCommerce or a custom build? See our ecommerce service.

Shopify store development covering catalogue, storefront and checkout

Prateeksha builds Shopify stores in Mumbai — theme customisation, catalogue setup, app integration review and migration planning, within our broader ecommerce service. Checkout customisation is constrained by Shopify's own plan-tier restrictions, described honestly rather than oversold. PCI compliance is certified by compliant payment providers and the merchant, not by Prateeksha.

Where Shopify stores lose maintainability

Most struggling Shopify stores grew by adding, not by planning.

  1. 01

    Poor catalogue structure

Categories, variants and metafields added ad hoc as the catalogue grew.

  2. 02

    Generic theme behaviour

A stock or heavily modified theme that no longer matches how the store actually sells.

  3. 03

    Unclear product information

Product pages that leave real pre-purchase questions unanswered.

  4. 04

    App overload

Apps installed to solve one-off problems, slowing the store and adding maintenance risk.

  5. 05

    Fragile migration history

Data imported from a previous platform with gaps that only surface later.

What a maintainable build changes

A storefront where theme, catalogue and apps are planned to work together.

We treat theme customisation, catalogue structure and app choices as one connected build, not separate add-ons. Looking at commerce platforms and strategy more broadly? See our ecommerce service.

  • Catalogue and metafields structured before content is entered
  • Theme customisation built on Online Store 2.0 and Liquid
  • Product pages that answer real pre-purchase questions
  • App choices reviewed for what they actually add, not installed ad hoc
  • A redirect strategy for any migration, to reduce visibility risk

How delivery runs

Plan, configure, design, validate, launch — in that order.

The same sequence for a new store or a migration onto Shopify.

  1. Plan

Catalogue structure, theme requirements and app needs understood before any build work starts.

  2. Configure

Store setup, shipping, taxes and payment integration configured to your market.

  3. Design

Theme customisation and custom sections built on Online Store 2.0 and Liquid.

  4. Validate

Catalogue data, checkout flow and payment integration tested before go-live.

  5. Launch

A monitored go-live, with a redirect strategy already validated for any migration.

What changes

A heavily modified generic theme vs. a maintainable Shopify storefront.

Both are Shopify stores. The difference is whether theme, catalogue and apps were planned to work together.

What changes
A heavily modified generic theme
A maintainable Shopify storefront
Theme
A stock theme patched repeatedly over time
Custom sections built deliberately on Online Store 2.0
Catalogue
Categories and metafields added as an afterthought
Structured before content is entered
Apps
Installed one at a time to solve immediate problems
Reviewed for what each one genuinely adds
Checkout
Assumed to be fully customisable
Worked within Shopify's actual plan-tier constraints, honestly
Migration
Data imported with gaps discovered later
Mapped and redirected with a validation pass

Storefronts built to be maintained

A Shopify store your team can run without a developer on call.

The theme setup made day-to-day changes — new collections, seasonal banners, product updates — something our own team handles directly. That alone has saved us a lot of back-and-forth.

FAQs

Shopify development — frequently asked questions.

Straight answers on scope, platform constraints and what this engagement can and cannot promise.

Not sure if Shopify is the right platform for your catalogue? Our ecommerce service covers platform choice generally.

With a diagnostic rather than a rebuild. Weak sales can come from acquisition, product data, storefront conversion, pricing, fulfilment or retention — and the fix differs entirely depending on which. Our Ecommerce Growth System looks at your customer economics and store data first, then prioritises the workstreams the evidence supports. Outcomes depend on product demand, margin, inventory, competition and how much is implemented.

We build on Shopify regularly, but we don't currently hold a listed Shopify Partner Program status, and we won't claim one we don't have. What we can offer is a straightforward look at recent theme and storefront work during a consultation.

We haven't published a dedicated Shopify Plus track record, so we won't claim Plus-specific expertise here. If you're on Plus or considering it, tell us your requirements and we'll be honest about fit before scoping anything.

Checkout customisation on Shopify is genuinely constrained by your plan tier — Shopify restricts how deeply checkout can be modified outside Shopify Plus. We work within whatever your plan allows and are upfront about the ceiling, rather than overselling customisation freedom. We do not promise a specific increase in conversions or reduction in cart abandonment, since that depends on price, product fit, shipping terms and demand well beyond the storefront itself.

Costs depend on scope — store setup, theme customisation, catalogue size and app integrations all affect it. See our Shopify package for a defined starting scope, or share your requirements for a tailored estimate.

A store setup and theme customisation can often be scoped in a few weeks; larger catalogues, custom sections or migrations take longer depending on integrations and content readiness.

Yes. We plan the migration around your existing content, SKUs and URLs, with a redirect strategy to reduce the risk of lost search visibility during the move — this is a risk-reduction practice, not a guarantee that every ranking is preserved.

We haven't published headless Shopify work as a distinct track record, so we're not claiming that specialism here. Most Shopify projects we scope use Shopify's Online Store 2.0 and Liquid templating directly — tell us if your project genuinely needs a headless frontend and we'll advise honestly on fit.
